“After Beacon – From Memory” now on view at Mana Contemporary
May 15, 2025I’m pleased to announce that my diptych After Beacon – From Memory (2023) is now on view in the main lobby of Mana Contemporary in Jersey City.
Spanning over 14 feet in width, this work embodies my ongoing interest in the relationship between structured composition and spontaneous mark-making, digital design and human gesture. The piece began as a series of digital sketches, created instinctively on an iPad, and later evolved into a layered oil painting where gesture, memory, and form converge.
At the core of this work is drawing—used not just to plan, but to explore the push and pull between control and improvisation. The gestures move between clarity and chaos, reflecting a deeper dialogue between control and release.
Though abstract, the work is grounded in memory—specifically, the emotional residue of a visit to Beacon, New York. Rather than depict a place, it captures a feeling: a series of fleeting visual and emotional sensations, reimagined as a dynamic conversation between color, movement, and form.
I’m grateful to Mana Contemporary for giving this piece a space where it can live, breathe, and engage with viewers in motion.
